Evidence in Effective Teaching

With the research evidence clear about the importance of effective teaching, teachers at Bald Hills State School have been implementing an evidence-based teaching framework across the school. In 2012 teachers focused on the strategies that create the environment for learning, including making clear the intent of a lesson, providing effective feedback to students, and highlighting the Habits of Mind.

Habits of Mind are sixteen ways of thinking that successful people, including successful learners, exhibit. They include being able to manage impulsivity, strive for accuracy and persist at a task. In addition to being taught about the Habits of Mind, each week on assembly a student from each class is recognised for exhibiting one by being named 'Student of the Week'.

In 2013 the focus at Bald Hills State School moves to evidence-based teaching strategies that help students develop understanding and use knowledge meaningfully. During the January student free days teachers will complete a day of professional learning dedicated to these strategies to be applied in classrooms.
