Teaching and Learning

Bald Hills State School staff are committed to implementing evidence-based teaching methods, and where possible aim to select from a range of teaching strategies listed in the Classroom Instruction That Works framework.

Decisions about how and what to teach often begin with assessing where a child is in relation to the required curriculum, and move from this starting place to selecting the best method of teaching, often grouping students of similar ability in the process for efficiency. Classroom Instruction That Works is one of many teaching approaches used across Queensland that emphasises the need for students and teachers to be clear about

  • what needs to be learnt during the lesson
  • what actions need to be completed to learn it
  • whether students are making progress in learning the skills and knowledge

Bald Hills State School chooses teaching methods that have proven effective for students in particular areas, and the links to the right let you see some of the details of the Direct Instruction Spelling Mastery Programme we use for the teaching of spelling.
